Changing your last name in Morioh High

Checked

Do this before editing your character. Open your profile, save your current surname into the Last Name Storage slot, and verify the record is stored before making any adjustments to character customization.

The three rules

  1. Saving is manual. The system never automatically archives your current surname when you enter a new one; you must commit it to the storage slot deliberately.
  2. Gender edits and name storage are separate. The 18 October patch corrected an issue where changing gender wiped custom names, but that engine repair does not substitute for saving your record.
  3. The slot is your only undo. If you replace a custom surname featuring specialized spelling, capitalization, or spacing without saving, no rollback log exists to restore it.

Trap: typing a new surname before saving the old one

The most frequent oversight during character customization is entering a temporary name to preview appearance while assuming the original surname stays cached in the background. Name changes take effect upon submission. If you fail to commit your original name to the storage slot beforehand, the previous text is permanently cleared.

What the patch added

The 18 October 2026 update log announced two related name mechanics:

  • Last Name Storage: save and load your last name on demand.
  • Gender fix: addressed a specific defect where toggling character gender cleared custom names.

Distinguish the two features clearly:

  • Last Name Storage is an intentional save state under your control.
  • The gender fix resolves an avatar editor glitch, rather than guaranteeing protection against accidental renaming.

The order that avoids losing a name

  1. Confirm the exact spelling and capitalization of the surname you wish to retain.
  2. Open the storage interface, click save, and wait for confirmation to register.
  3. Apply any desired surname edits or cosmetic adjustments to your character.
  4. Load the saved slot back whenever you wish to revert to your original name.

Skipping step two turns any name modification into a permanent overwrite until you retype it manually from memory.

What the patch did not say

The developers documented the existence of the feature without detailing secondary parameters:

  • The total capacity of name slots per player.
  • Whether saving or loading charges any Yen transaction fee.
  • Whether loading a stored name immediately overwrites the current slot balance.

These specific details remain unpublished in developer patch notes, so verify the live interface before assuming multiple name profiles are supported.

Diagnostic: if a surname disappears

If your surname reverts to a default tag or fails to display:

  1. Verify whether you saved the slot after typing the name, rather than before.
  2. Check whether your character underwent a gender toggle prior to updating your client.
  3. Treat a missing name as an unsaved state rather than a temporary server lag issue, and re-enter your preferred text into the storage slot.

After securing your name

  • Protect your Stand build: read the companion guide for Stand Storage, which saves your Stand and skin variants before you reroll.
  • Return to school routines: check the school overview for campus activities.
  • Review character progression: revisit your first sessions guide.
